CHOGM 2024 will be hosted by Samoa. A Nation population of 200,000 and National Security Force of 600 Police Officers.

The Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) will be hosted by Samoa in 2024.

A meeting whereby up to 56 world leaders will converge into Samoa for 28th CHOGM meeting.

Last week CHOGM leaders had an emergency session held in London which is normally a biennial meeting however there was an emergency session in London last week amongst leaders, prior to the regular CHOGM meeting to be hosted by Samoa in 2024.

An example of the scope and scale of the event will be significant for a Pacific Island Nation whose population is merely 200,000. Samoa will be hosting 56 Prime Ministers and Presidents during the CHOGM 2024.

In charge of the CHOGM Security detail will be the Samoan Police Service. The entire Samoa Police Force is 600 Police Officers. Samoa has no military arm having to rely on all military, intelligence and combat security service provision by their Partners which includes New Zealand and the Australian Military and Police services. However, recently, the Chinese Government have offered to assist the Samoan Government in the event that Samoa may request the Chinese Govenrment's interdiction as may be required.

In 2024, the CHOGM 2024 will represent 56 Nations with a population of 2.5 Billion people. Two of the 56 Nations include BRICS member Nations, India and South Africa. There are numerous members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as Dialogue Members, also amongst the CHOGM attendees as well.

Whilst the world is converging into Samoa, the National Security Profile of Samoa is narrowed to 600 Police Officers who will be responsible for the personal protection of up to 56 Presidents and Prime Ministers expected to be attending the event.

The BRICS and SCO members will be of particular importance at this CHOGM meeting, since the Security profile for the Indian Prime Minister and the South African President will be exclusive as CHOGM member attendees at the Samoan CHOGM meeting. The personal protection details from their respective National Security Services will also converge into Samoa which ought to augment the 600 Samoan Police Officers taken to charge to provide the Security detail for the entire CHOGM event.

Recently, Hon. Pat Conroy, ALP, the Australian Federal Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, had spent time in Samoa, along with numerous Australian Federal Police Officers, opening the new Samoan Police facilities, that was part of the Australian Aid to Samoa. The Australian Federal Police were also able to assess the security risk issues as may arise with the expected 2024 CHOGM meeting in Samoa.

Due to the Covid lockdowns, the 2022 event was postponed till, 2023, the Samoan Government had commemorated their 60th anniversary of the Samoan Independence and as the first Pacific Island Nation to gain their Independence from New Zealand in the South Pacific.

Understanding the Samoan logistical situation of having to host 56 Heads of Government's from the Commonwealth of Nation members, is illustrated at this ceremony. For a very small island Nation the undertaking of hosting such an event is a overwhelming undertaking. However, the Samoan Government will endeavour to deliver the needs of their people and race, and as a Sovereign Nation, and as a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Samoa will punch well above their weight and will host CHOGM 2024.
