 The Chinese DF 31A is the Chinese mobile road launched Nuclear ICBM with either a single warhead of 1 megaton nuclear yield or 3 to 5 MIRVs that can reach all major cities in Australia, including, Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, being launched from mainland China.

There is no need for the Chinese to have Six of their Type 094 Jin Class Ballistic nuclear SSBN armed with up to 12x JL 2 nuclear missiles, each armed with either a single 1 megaton nuclear warhead or up to 3 MIRVs with 150kiloton yield each, launching within proximity from the Coral Sea, Arafura Sea, Timor Sea, the Tasman Sea, Pacific Ocean or Indian Ocean at Australian Cities.

The DF 31A ICBM can be launched from mainland China and can more than cover all of Australia in their range it seems almost pointless even considering a Submarine deterrence or even an Australian military National Security policy to deter a potential Chinese nuclear annhilation of Australia.
When Australia proposed their Virginia Class Submarine program it was laughable to the Chinese and Russians.
For the Russians, what is even more lethal is the fact that the RS-28 SARMAT, or the SATAN II may be launched from Russia and will travel at a trajectory over the Southern Pole, which means via Antartica and may strike any city in Australia from Russian Silos. The Russians would scoff at the Australian National Security deterrence capabilities when the Russians may be even remotely tempted to launch a nuclear strike against Australia.
Again, reiterating the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces Motto for Australians to serious consider:
"After Us - Silence"
The Chinese Peoples Liberation Army Rocket Force's most likely Nuclear missiles that may be considered being launched against any NATO enemy including Australia would most likely be the DF 31A or from a SSBN a JL 2. Even more lethal the JL 3 is in service, which means that it can be launched from near the Chinese Coastline in the South China Sea and can reach both the USA and all of the Australian Cities.
When Australia had predicted a War with China......The response from the Chinese was simply to laugh at Australia.

The USN are responding to the Chinese Naval build up. However, the Chinese are building their ships faster and more of vessels comparable to the Americans.
